As Christmas is almost here, lots of people are going to be traveling. If you're like me, everytime you travel, it comes down to the battle of the suitcase. You know what I'm talking about: you pick out a few cute outfits that you really, really like, but once it comes to actually packing all of the clothes, your suitcase just isn't big enough. Being a seasoned traveler, I've slowly learned how to pack efficiently and effectively. In fact, I'm actually packing right now to go spend Christmas in DC.
So here's a few steps as to what I do:
1.) The first thing you want to do is look at the weather of your destination. Will it be sunny? Will it be raining? Will it be chilly or warm? Just look it up. Its better to know exactly what to expect rather than be caught in a cute little skirt and heels in the pouring rain.
2.) Start planning those outfits that you want to wear! Plan each day's outfit so you won't end up with several pieces that are too different to mix and match. Make sure to pick pieces that are classic and versatile. If you pick things that'll mix and match, then you can get more outfits out of less, which means more room in your suitcase.
3.) Remember to pack shoes and accessories! Pick shoes that go with almost everything, since shoes are the hardest things to get into your suitcase. And everyone knows that accessories help make a different outfit with only a few pieces of clothing.
4.) I have two methods to packing. The first way is to start with shoes, socks, undergardments, and accessories. Stuff the socks and undergardments in the shoes and other small spaces to create a small layer in your suitcase. Next, put in your shirts, followed by dresses or skirts, and lastly pants and sweaters. The second method is to lay down a layer of undergardments, socks, and accessories. Then create two piles, usually stacking each outfit one on top of the other. Or you can create a pile of pants and dresses or skirts, and another pile of shirts and sweaters. Last, stick shoes in between the two piles or around them.
Happy packing :)
